Die-Cut / Punching Machine Operator
Job Summary:
The Die-Cut / Punching Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring die-cutting or punching equipment to produce packaging products that meet customer specifications, quality standards, and production targets. The operator performs machine make-readies, routine adjustments, quality checks, and basic maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate die-cutting equipment according to job tickets and production specifications
- Read and interpret job tickets, layout sheets, or samples prior to production runs
- Install and adjust dies, plates, and press settings according to job orders
- Perform make-ready procedures, including nicking, rubbering, and spotting operations
- Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions and make necessary adjustments during press runs
- Inspect finished items for correct dimensions, clean cuts, and proper scoring or creasing
- Troubleshoot minor machine errors, jams, or cutting issues during shifts
- Perform routine maintenance including oiling parts, cleaning machines, and storing dies safely
- Complete production and quality documentation accurately
- Maintain clean and organized work area according to safety and housekeeping standards
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 3+ years of experience running die-cutting equipment on board stock and paper
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency with measurement and inspection tools (rulers, calipers, micrometers)
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
