PP Extrusion Machine Operator
Job Summary:
Operate and maintain polypropylene (PP) extrusion machinery to produce plastic products according to specifications, ensuring quality, safety, and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up, start up, and shut down PP extrusion lines according to production schedules
- Install and adjust dies, rollers, and downstream equipment (cooling tanks, pullers, cutters)
- Configure machine parameters including temperature, pressure, screw speed, and cooling rates
- Load raw PP pellets, colorants, and additives into hoppers; ensure proper blending ratios
- Monitor extrusion process and make precise adjustments to maintain product dimensions and quality
- Perform first article and routine quality inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Identify and troubleshoot extrusion defects such as surface blemishes, warping, or dimensional variations
- Perform minor preventive maintenance including cleaning dies, filters, and calibrators
- Maintain accurate production records and quality documentation
- Follow all safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and PPE requirements
- Maintain clean and organized work area according to 5S standards
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 2-5 years of experience operating plastic extrusion machinery
- Hands-on experience with PP (polypropylene) processing preferred
- Proficiency with measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) in metric units
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and production specifications
- Basic computer skills for data entry (Excel)
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Willingness to work rotating shifts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with HPM or Davis-Standard extrusion machines
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles
