WELDER
Job Summary
We are looking for a certified and experienced Welder to join our maintenance and fabrication team. The successful candidate will be responsible for welding, cutting, and fabricating metal parts and structures for our waste management fleet and facilities. This includes repairing truck bodies, compaction units, containers, and other heavy-duty equipment to withstand demanding daily use. Precision, a commitment to quality, and adherence to strict safety protocols are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled welding tasks (MIG, TIG, Arc, and Oxy-Acetylene) on various metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Fabricate, repair, and reinforce waste collection truck bodies, compaction mechanisms, hoppers, bins, and rail containers.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders to plan and execute projects.
- Conduct cutting, grinding, bending, and fitting of metal components.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on equipment to address wear, cracks, and structural damage.
- Collaborate with mechanics and other technicians to complete integrated repair jobs.
- Ensure all welding work meets company quality standards, industry specifications, and safety regulations.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work area in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
- Follow all company safety policies, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and procedures for hot work permits.
- Assist in inventory management of welding supplies and metal stocks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certified Welder (e.g., NVQ-J, City & Guilds, or equivalent certification in welding).
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on welding and fabrication experience, preferably in heavy equipment, automotive, trucking, or industrial manufacturing.
- Proven ability to weld in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead).
- Strong experience with fabricating and repairing heavy-gauge steel structures.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and measurements accurately.
- Knowledge of different metal properties and appropriate welding techniques.
- Experience with plasma cutting and other metalworking tools.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Valid Jamaican driver’s license would be an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team under minimal supervision.
