SOLAR INSTALLER TECHNICIAN
Job Summary
We are looking for a certified and practical Solar Installer Technician to assist in the assessment, installation, maintenance, and repair of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at our company facilities and operational sites. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with solar equipment, a strong understanding of electrical systems, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship. This role is essential to supporting the company’s sustainability goals and energy independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation, mounting, and wiring of solar panels, racking systems, inverters, and associated electrical components on rooftops and ground-mounted systems at depots, offices, and facilities.
- Work under the guidance of senior technicians or project managers to interpret site plans, electrical schematics, and system designs.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and system performance checks on existing solar PV installations.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues with solar arrays, including DC and AC circuits, monitoring systems, and battery storage units (if applicable).
- Ensure all installations comply with the Jamaica Electrical Code, company safety standards, and manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system performance data.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols for working at heights, with electrical systems, and in an industrial environment.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work vehicles in good condition.
- Provide basic training and information to staff on the operation of installed systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- Technical Certification in Electrical Installation, Renewable Energy Technology, Solar Photovoltaic Systems, or a related field (e.g., from HEART Trust/NSTA, UTECH, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in solar PV installation, preferably in commercial or industrial settings.
- Strong foundational knowledge of electrical principles, wiring, and circuitry.
- Experience with hand and power tools used in solar installation and metal fabrication.
- Ability to work comfortably at heights and on rooftops, and perform physical tasks (lifting, climbing, bending).
- Basic computer skills for system monitoring and reporting.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail.
- Valid Jamaican driver’s license is a must.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
