CATEGORY BUYER
Job Overview: The Category Buyer will be responsible for purchasing products within assigned categories to ensure optimal stock levels, competitive pricing, and alignment with customer demand. This role involves working closely with suppliers, analysing market trends, and collaborating with internal teams to support the company’s retail and distribution goals. The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of procurement and category management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Purchase products within assigned categories to meet sales and inventory targets.
- Negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing, favourable terms, and timely delivery.
- Analyse market trends, customer preferences, and sales data to identify purchasing opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Category Manager and Procurement Manager to develop and execute category strategies.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure optimal stock availability to meet customer demand.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability and quality.
- Work closely with the procurement, finance, sales and retail teams to resolve supply chain issues.
- Provide regular updates and reports on purchasing activities and category performance.

- Timely and cost-effective purchasing of products within assigned categories.
- Competitive pricing and favourable terms secured through effective negotiation.
- Optimal stock levels maintained to meet customer demand and minimize overstock or stockouts.

Competencies (Knowledge/Skills/Qualification/Experience):
Qualification: Diploma or Certificate in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or a related role, preferably in retail or distribution.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in purchasing software, inventory management systems, and advanced Excel skills.
Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate favourable terms with suppliers.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse market trends, sales data, and inventory levels.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in purchasing and maintaining records.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with suppliers and internal teams.
Ethical Standards: Commitment to maintaining integrity and compliance in all purchasing activities.
