Senior VRF Technician
Job Summary:
The Senior VRF Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of variable refrigerant flow (VRF) HVAC systems in commercial and industrial facilities. This position requires in-depth knowledge of VRF technology, exceptional diagnostic skills, and the ability to lead and mentor junior technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the installation and commissioning of new VRF systems, ensuring proper system configuration, refrigerant charging, and integration with building controls.
- Perform preventive maintenance on VRF systems, including cleaning, inspecting, and servicing indoor and outdoor units, refrigerant circuits, and control components.
- Expertly diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues with VRF systems, using advanced diagnostics tools and techniques to identify and resolve faults.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior VRF technicians to develop their skills and abilities.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all VRF system work, including detailed service reports, equipment details, and performance data.
- Collaborate with HVAC engineers, facility managers, and other stakeholders to optimize VRF system performance and energy efficiency.
- Respond to emergency service calls for VRF system failures and work quickly to restore system operation.
- Stay current with the latest VRF technologies, industry best practices, and manufacturer service bulletins.
- Assist in the planning and execution of VRF system upgrades, retrofits, and expansions.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or technical certification in HVAC, refrigeration, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience as a VRF technician, with a proven track record of advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving
- In-depth knowledge of VRF system components, control sequences, and diagnostic procedures
- Proficient in using specialized VRF diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and resolve complex issues
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to quickly diagnose and resolve system faults
- Excellent communication and mentoring abilities to train and guide junior technicians
- EPA Universal refrigerant handling certification
- VRF manufacturer-specific certifications are highly desirable
- Familiarity with building automation systems and HVAC control integration is an asset
