HVAC Control Engineer
Job Summary:
The HVAC Control Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing building automation and control systems for commercial and industrial HVAC applications. This includes selecting appropriate control technologies, programming control logic, and integrating systems to ensure efficient, reliable, and comfortable building environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze building HVAC requirements and design control strategies to meet performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort objectives.
- Select appropriate HVAC control hardware and software components, including controllers, sensors, valves, and communication networks.
- Develop control system programming, sequences, and user interface designs using industry-standard building automation software.
- Configure, test, and commission new HVAC control systems to ensure proper functionality and integration with existing building systems.
- Provide training and support to HVAC technicians and facility personnel on the operation and maintenance of control systems.
- Monitor HVAC control system performance and make adjustments to optimize energy consumption, occupant comfort, and equipment runtime.
- Troubleshoot complex HVAC control issues and collaborate with technicians to identify and resolve faults.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of control system designs, programming, and commissioning for future reference and maintenance.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest HVAC control technologies, building automation protocols, and industry best practices.
- Assist in the development of HVAC control system upgrade and retrofit projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of experience as an HVAC control engineer
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC system components, building automation protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks), and programming methodologies
- Proficient in using building automation software for system design, programming, and troubleshooting
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to optimize HVAC control system performance
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with HVAC technicians, facility managers, and other stakeholders
- Technical certification in HVAC controls or building automation systems is preferred
- Familiarity with energy management strategies and sustainability best practices is an asset
