Job Summary:
The Estimation Engineer is responsible for providing accurate cost estimates and proposals for HVAC, building automation, and electrical control system projects. This position requires in-depth technical expertise in HVAC systems, control technologies, and electrical integration to ensure comprehensive and competitive bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough site assessments and evaluate customer requirements to determine the scope of HVAC, controls, and electrical work.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other technical documentation to accurately quantify and price all necessary materials, equipment, and labor.
- Leverage expert knowledge of HVAC system components, building automation protocols, and electrical integration to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and technicians to ensure accurate takeoffs, account for installation complexities, and optimize project costs.
- Prepare detailed proposals, including itemized pricing, project timelines, and warranties, to present to clients.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and negotiations to clarify project requirements and secure competitive contracts.
- Maintain up-to-date pricing information on HVAC equipment, controls hardware, and electrical materials from various manufacturers and suppliers.
- Identify potential risks, challenges, and opportunities during the estimating process to proactively address them.
- Continuously research and stay informed about the latest HVAC technologies, control system advancements, and industry trends to enhance the company's competitive edge.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of experience as an HVAC estimator or in a similar role, with a strong focus on controls and electrical integration
- Extensive knowledge of HVAC system types, components, and design principles
- In-depth understanding of building automation protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks) and control system programming
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation
- Demonstrated ability to accurately quantify HVAC, controls, and electrical materials and labor costs
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve project-specific challenges
- Strong communication and negotiation skills to collaborate with clients, project managers, and technical teams
- Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software and construction management tools
Professional engineering certification or HVAC design experience is preferred |
